
CHRONIC PAINS
Chronic pain is pain that lasts more than six months and still it is an ongoing issue, even if the root cause of the pain has been resolved or gone away. Chronic or persistent pain generally carries on despite medication or treatment. Some of the most common types of chronic pain includes Headache, post surgical pain, post traumatic pain, lower back pain, arthritis pain, neurogenic pain (pain caused by nerve damage) and psychogenic pain (pain that is not caused by disease, injury or damage).
For the clients suffering from chronic pain the treatment goal would shift from resolving the pain to managing the pain. For some clients it can last for years to lifetime.
Chronic Pain Treatments
The most common consequences of untreated chronic pain is decreased mobility, decreased concentration and sleep disturbances. Assessment of chronic pain includes determining the factors that influence the individual’s pain experience and should be treated with appropriate treatment plan.
