THE CAUSES
A patient who has undergone surgeries like rotator cuff repair, total knee or hip replacement, post-fracture surgery, tendon repair, ACL reconstruction, carpal tunnel release, spinal discectomy, or laminectomy can be benefited from post-surgery physiotherapy treatment. A physiotherapist can help to get the most desirable result after surgery. Physiotherapy treatment starts right after surgery in the hospital. The initial phase goal is just to prevent any complications like a chest infection or blood clot.
What To Expect
The post-surgery patient complains of pain around the surgical area, joint stiffness, muscle weakness, reduced mobility, reduced independence, and low activity tolerance; all of them can get benefits from post-surgery rehabilitation. In the early recovery phase, the goal is to reduce pain & swelling. Start with gentle exercise to regain muscle strength without disturbing the healing process then slowly progress to strengthening exercise and joint mobility.
